Computer was not what I thought I was getting. When I went back to the website I saw the computer that I had bought was now $175 cheaper. I then read the return policy - which they say is the best in the business and relized I was screwed. DO NOT BUY A COMPUTER FROM THESE PEOPLE.

Awful

I ordered a hard drive for a Dell laptop and they sent me a hard drive that was way too large to fit in the case. I called and requested a refund, as well as mentioned that the model I ordered for is a 7 mm drive and all the drives they were selling were 9 mm. They basically didn't give a *** and refused to do anything to help me after their false advertisement. I was able to return the hard drive for store credit and ended up waiting a month before being able to fix a laptop due to their error.

Staff dont know how to fix computers.

I used to work there and I must say I have never seen a group of under qualified tecs. Not a single one knows what they are doing. They send out wrong adapters with docking stations and then try telling me this is ok. Well everyone knows to make sure that you have the correct wattage and voltage. How these guys are around I do not know. They are over priced not to mention they install illegal copies of windows. They rip old people off like you wouldn't believe. The owner just cares about ripping old people off and taking there money I will make sure to tell all my friends how much you guys suck. Thanks for ripping us off.

Incorrect diagnosis of computer malfunction

I own a Dell INSPIRON zino HD 400 which had a lockup problem - the computer shut off completely while running normally - no obvious indication of overheating (fan noise). When it happened the screen goes black like there's no signal, no response from keyboard/mouse, power button stays lit but doesn't turn it off or even respond (the only way to turn it off is to unplug it). I took it to the North location of Discount Electronics for repair and carefully explained these symptoms. When the repair dept. phoned me with their diagnosis, they said that the hard drive had a "malicious virus" and the best solution would be to replace it and reload the operating system (OS), for which they would charge me $179.00 (plus tax, of course). Since I already had a new OEM hard drive, I declined their offer to repair and instead paid their $27.06 diagnostic fee. Although I am no computer tech, I found it relatively easy to replace the hard drive. While I was reloading the OS, the same problem occurred AGAIN. This puzzled me since the new hard drive had not yet even finished loading the OS from the mfg. provided "recovery disk", and certainly had not yet had an opportunity to download a virus from anywhere. That made me think that the Discount Electronics diagnosis of the problem might be in error. SO, I went online and Googled my problem description, and to my surprise there was a whole section at the Dell website devoted to a discussion of this very problem. The problem in a nutshell appears to be that the 400 model of this computer has/had an overheating problem that affected the video card which is hard wired to the motherboard. It appears that Dell became aware of the flaw early on, as they redesigned the motherboard, and with little fanfare continued selling the INSPIRON zino 410 (which to my knowledge completely solved this problem). However, the tech wizards at Discount Electronics apparently did NOT do this research since their recommendation had nothing to do with the actual problem. I replaced the motherboard with a Dell OEM and instigated a "cool running" protocol. Since doing so the computer has worked perfectly. Had I actually paid Discount Electronics to replace the hard drive, I would have been out the $179 (plus tax) AND still have had a malfunctioning computer. So, I went back to Discount and asked for a refund of my $27.06 diagnostic fee -- since their diagnosis was obviously wrong. But their tech stuck to his original diagnosis and that they WOULD NOT REFUND the diagnostic fee. Epilogue - After replacing the motherboard, I put the ORIGINAL hard drive (the one that Discount Electronics said was fatally compromised by a malicious virus) back into the unit and it continues to work perfectly to this day. So unless the virus disappeared on its own, it appears that, in fact, there never was anything wrong with the original hard drive. So my recommendation is to avoid the north Austin location of Discount Electronics if you need computer repair.

Inferior Product, high prices, no refunds

I wanted to purchase a desktop for a very specific task and being that i don't want to spend a lot i went to this store to get a used machine. the prices were comparable but nothing too astounding; i spoke with several staff members who were all trying to be helpful but rather came across as arrogant and bothersome. I was very clear what i expected from the machine as i payed for it and explained that it needed to outperform the laptop it was replacing. when i got it home the machine was missing 17 drivers (an major inconvenience to someone not familiar with computers, but to me a 30 minute delay) after finally getting it into running condition it failed to outperform the laptop to my disappointment. i had spent over $200 on it so far so i went back and dropped nearly another $100 to get a yet-better machine. When that also failed to outdo a laptop with 1/2 it's specs i returned that same day (after 4 hours of resolving drivers and trying to make it perform to spec) expecting to find them reasonable. i was mistaken. The manager informed me that "We are too big to do refunds, that's the sort of stuff you get at a mom and pop place"... this arrogance was mind blowing to say the least...I tried to meet him half-way and suggested he gives my half the cash back and i'll gladly take the other $150 has store credit so that i could still spend a fair amount there and make the transaction worth his time. The answer was a resounding "no"... I then had a chance to become familiar with their inventory as i now had $300 in store credit for a store i no longer wanted to shop at. To compare a few of the things noticed; There are 2 types of Raspberry pi (mini computers) one with 256Mb RAM and one with 512; the 512 is double the 256 in all regards and goes for around $35-39 anywhere online (eBay, amazon) and radio shack has a "kit" including about $85 in accessories for just under $120... this store ONLY had the 256 version and were asking $79 for it with NO ACCESSORIES. everything they have that's not an actual computer or package is massively over priced and among the $300 in merchandise i left with; i have found fault with nearly all of it. To blow off that money i needed at least one large item so i selected a $180 desktop that to my dismay does not even have a DVD burner, the operating system they loaded it with was filled (literally consuming 40% of the processor with background processes) with bloatware (my new programming is consuming less then %1 to handle background), of the three desktop not one of them had it's drivers installed, the "tid-bit" items i bought were all priced about about double fair market price considering that most of the inventory is clearly factory returns, re-manufactured, or (in the case of the full computers) returned after a several-year long lease to various companies. In short; never have i been so compelled to warn others of a shifty business but at this point i feel it would be wrong of me not to... if you need used electronics there are several other places to take your business; places that aren't "too big to give refunds" when they have sold you a machine unable to perform. It's already a used machine and they did not even put in the labor to program it correctly; not like me owning it for a few disappointing hours hurt it's value any.

DiscountElectronics.com

I purchased a motherboard for my dell laptop. I believe I saw it was written I had a 30 day return time. I truly wanted to fix my computer. I never saw no refund policy. I am sure noone will find out about that detail while performing a purchase. This is unusual nowadays and I am sure noone even think this is possible. The board did not work. I returned it and they sent me another one which did not work too. They sent me another one which I did return without using it... and asked for a refund. At that time the policy was sent to me. I discussed the fact that I have not consumed any services or products for which to be charged. They did say there will be a store credit ... which also has not come yet and for which I do not care as my only need was to fix my computer and have no other needs to spend $180 on. I don't mind the restocking fee, but not the rest as I do agree work was done. This business is not legitimate as they make money out of people in need for no services or products. What are the steps to close such business or demanding to return the money to all affected?

Buyer Beware: NO REFUNDS

I ordered a DVD drive for my computer. It was listed @ the website to fit my model, but was the wrong part. They did not have the correct one in stock. I immediately returned it, requesting a refund, but received no follow-up communication from them. On email inquiry three weeks later I learned that they would not refund my money. BEWARE: DiscountElectronics.com DOES NOT GIVE REFUNDS!! I don't want their "cost minus postage + 15% restocking fee" that they credited to the store account. I admit my mistake in not reading their "Terms of Service" agreement. --Just want to let others know they will absolutely refuse to refund your money. I wasted $50.

DiscountElectronics will say anything to make a sale

Beware, once you made a sale, it's final and that's that. Just try getting your money back. Forget it. AFter several conversations on the phone, I made it perfectly clear during each conversation that if I was not interested in the product for any reason I would need to return the product and get my money back. Each time, they told me "no problem, but I would have to do it within 7 days". I did not have a problem with this. It sounded reasonable. Well I returned the product within 4 days - and guess what - now they are throwing some kind of terms and conditions on me, screwing me over. I'll stick to amazon. Never had a problem with these guys. Buyer beware I guess

Discount Electronics Suck!

They suck. I ordered a replacement battery for a client. The battery arrived. It was used. There was no indication that we were getting a used battery when we ordered it. Not only was the battery used, but it didn't hold a charge. The battery was junk. Add to that, the fact that the battery was filthy - covered in scratches and food crumbs! The person who's laptop we were replacing the battery on, looked at me as if to say, "You're kidding me, right?" The battery looked like it had been sitting at the back of someone's couch for the past two years. She insisted I clean it up. Anyway, it didn't work. I emailed them and asked for an RMA. Some guy called "Scott" emailed back and said, hey no probs...we'll go ahead and replace it for you. That's the last I've heard from them. I've emailed them back a couple of times. Nothing. My take: This is just another semi-scam company. They make their money off "one-time" sales. That's the business model. They're not looking for return business. There's enough suckers out there (like me) to keep sending them our money - one time. When their name gets too bad, they'll just dissolve the company and start up another one. STAY AWAY!

DiscountElectronics.com Poor Product and Service

We ordered a power supply to fix our DELL computer from DiscountElectronics.com. The power supply arrived as refurbished when the web site did not indicate it was anything but new. When we complained we were told we could return it for a 15% restocking charge. We mailed it back losing $10 of our own to ship it back, but when it arrived they informed us that the person we talked to was not authorized to process an RMA and they weren't going to credit us any money. So, they kept the power supply to sell another day and gave us zero money back.

I think I've been ripped off. Ordered a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff a week ago and they immediately assigned a UPS tracking no.

However, tracking info continously shows "billing info received" which means UPS hasn't picked it up yet.

A week has passed. They aren't responding to my emails and the phone number they list is out of service.

Guest

I ordered from them ONLY because they listed a specific DELL motherboard. What I received was a totally different item that will not fit my computer case.

I fired off emails to their "support" department. The first response from them was "there are many motherboards that fit that model computer. Sorry for any confusion." No offer to sent the correct part or to refund my money. I sent back more nasty emails and got an offer to send an I/O back plate that would work with the motherboard they sent.

I reluctantly accepted this offer and have not heard a word from them since and haven't received any parts.

I am asking for a full refund but doubt I'll get one. DO NOT make the mistake I made and pay with Paypal because you have little chance of disputing the transaction.

I ordered a used dell PSU. I got it and it still had dust falling out of fans.

Above all that it didn't work. Tested it on 3 computers but didn't work. I got another, but that ones was worst.

It smelt terrible and still didn't work. Will not respond to email
